A. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)  on Windows Server 2003, ComptTIA Network+, and CompTIA Secruity+

A. Yes.  

Q. How many years have you been in the IT field?
A. 4 years

Q. Have you ever worked in a field outside IT?
A. I have worked 3 years as a Process Engineer.

Q. In what way did working in other fields prepare you for the IT field?
A. Analytical skills, people skills, communication skills, organizational skills, etc.

Q. What steps does someone go through to get a job in this field?
A. The best way is to get a B.S. degree in Information Technology or Computer Science...get some job experience and then get some certifications related to your job function.

Q. What are ways to advance in your field?
A. Usually the best way to get ahead is through multiple years of experience on the job.  Certifications supplement the experience.

Q. What is the most enjoyable thing about your job?
A. Probably troubleshooting end user problems and learning new solutions to those problems.            

Q. What is the biggest challenge regarding your job?
A. Trying to stay ahead of technology.  It's always changing and there always something new.

A. Analytical skills, people skills, communication skills, organizational skills, and troubleshooting skills.

Q. What percentage of your day do you spend working independently or in a group?
A. Probably 85% independently / 15% group.

Q. What is one thing you didn’t know about your field before getting into it that you wish you had known?
A. I knew IT was a fast paced and ever changing field, but I didn't know that it is almost impossible to stay ahead of all the technology.  Also, when you’re in the IT field, individuals almost expect you to know everything there is to know about any new technology or new electronics.

Q. If you were a person getting ready to choose an IT major for college, what advice/guidance would you give them to help them decide between all the fields?
A. First choose a major that you like and secondly make sure that major is still in demand.

Q. If you could give me one quote about why you feel Information Technology is “THE” field to be in what would it be?
A. IT can be fun, challenging, and frustrating all at the same time!  And you gotta love those end users sometimes!
