What Types of IT Management Programs are in Idaho?

In the state of Idaho, there are many wonderful academic programs that can give you the extra boost you need to stand out above the stiff competition and be hired as an IT management professional. The trick, however, is to choose the right program for you and your particular needs and career goals. You can only do this, of course, if you know just what those career goals are. For this reason, it's highly recommended that you sit down and do some research on different positions in the field and the steps you must take to obtain those positions. Once you have a clearer idea of what you might like to do within the field, planning your education accordingly will become much easier.

Many professionals currently working in IT management in the state have simple associate's degrees. One of the big reasons behind this is because IT management is considered to be a very experienced based field. It is not something that is easy to learn about in theory, but that is best studied in practice. Therefore, lower levels of education and more experiential type learning are often emphasized, one of the reasons that associate's degrees are so common. These degrees can be earned in as little as two years, and are typically obtained from a community college, making them affordable for even the most modest budget.

Some people will choose to obtain a more "traditional" education and will decide to earn a bachelor's degree in the field. As long as the bachelor's degree is coupled with an internship, volunteering, or even work in IT management or a very closely related field, graduates should have no problem finding a job. Furthermore, they tend to enjoy higher salaries than their colleagues who have only associate's degrees. Bachelor's degrees are typically earned in about four years and are the gateway to further education.

The higher up IT management professionals, such as those who own their own companies or who manage large teams of other professionals, often have master's degrees or even PhDs. It's important to note, however, that they typically earn these degrees after they have already spent many years working in the field. They are usually earned while the person is working, which is doable because both master's degree programs and PhD programs are designed with working adults in mind. If you have been working steadily in IT management for several years and are ready to move up in the field, then consider going back to school! In many cases, your employer will even finance all or part of your educational pursuits.

In the end, no one else can tell you the right educational path for you, or if you'll even need to go down an educational path! These are answers that you should arrive at based on your own soul searching, your own research, and above all, what you feel is ultimately the best decision for you and your career goals.
