Computer forensics careers involve investigating and preserving digital evidence to be used in a court of law. This field is divided into two main groups: law enforcement computer forensics and private agency forensics. Forensic examiners are needed to investigate both white collar and violent crimes. White collar crimes may consist of online fraud, identity theft, and intellectual property theft. Examples of violent crimes, such as rape or even homicide, may involve computer forensics in the examination of cell phones, computers, PDAs, and anything else that can help provide proof of who committed the crime, and how it was committed.
