IT ANALYST SUCCESS STORIES
HOW TO BECOME AN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ANALYST

According to Money Magazine, if you’re an IT analyst you hold a position that is ranked a lofty seventh in their list of the Best Jobs in America.  Their definition of analyst is fairly broad, but “all of these jobs pay well, from desktop support technician to Webmaster to database wonk.”

It can also be a unique cultural and humane experience, if you’re of a mind to develop one.  Consider the tale told in eWeek about Doctor John (as he is known in China) who has spent the last four years in China teaching and building technology networks at schools, including the Mongolia University for Nationalities.

"The IT role [in China] can be unique and often is. Most of the places I have been had no infrastructure in place. If they did have something, it was mostly based on old, odd and unavailable technology. Add to this a real frightful bundle of communication issues. Not too many Western IT managers find themselves in a position where they feel a need to learn Chinese and Mongolian to do their job…"

The editor who found Dr. John and elicited a few stories about his work and experience notes that the best IT analysts are those who skip the complaining about management and go in and do a job that seemed impossible in the face of immature technology, indifferent management and throttled budgets.
