INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEGREES
EXPLORE A CAREER IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATE DEGREES

If IT is your chosen field, you’re making a safe bet.  According to the Department of Labor, information technology is the fastest growing employment segment in the country.  Jobs in the IT sector are projected to grow by 68% over the decade 2002-2012.

More than 90% of those jobs will be in non-IT related businesses.  People seeking IT opportunities will often need training or experience in such fields as health care; human services; and financial services.  That makes a IT degree a great opportunity for a career change that can be attainable by campus or online colleges. There is a good chance for rapid advancement for people who have experience in some of these fields, no matter at what level.

You can break into the field with an Associate’s Degree in a field related to digital technology and some hands-on experience with computers.  Some degrees may include programming, computer network engineer, java. People at this level often find themselves in charge of intranet repairs or integrating new software into a business system. An Associates Degree in Information Technology can provide the opportunity to work with some of the design aspects of a computer network such as Digital Design, Multimedia, and Animation, as well as other tasks related to keeping up with the industry.   Visual Communication is a key factor in the process of Web Development. It’s important to remember the highly accelerated rate obsolescence in the computer business – there’s always something new and better to integrate.

A Masters’ Degree in Information Technology may, with some experience, put you in a systems management role.  Often, training in IT combined with a background in business administration – an MBA with a technology component can be the right ticket to rapid promotion in corporate management roles.
