In Arkansas and throughout the rest of the world, computer networking professionals are in high demand, some positions more so than others. As such, the competition for these jobs, especially in today's rough economy, is fierce. Those who are seriously interested in pursuing a career in computer networking are encouraged to seek education in the field and then to gain further experience by completing internship or experiential learning opportunities. Individuals who are willing to do this will find that they will have their choice when it comes to which career they wish to pursue in this vast and promising field.

One position that is currently in high demand in Arkansas and throughout the United States is network manager. Network managers are put in charge of supervising several other professionals, usually a host of administrators, engineers, technicians, and programmers, making this a very desirable and competitive position. Managers are also responsible for strategical planning for the company as a whole. These professionals tend to be some of the most highly paid in the field. As such, at least a bachelor's degree in a related programming field and a few years of experience is usually required in order to be considered hirable.

Network programmers and/or analysts are also widely needed in many areas of Arkansas. This is another highly competitive position with a higher end salary for successful professionals. Most programmers and analysts will possess at least a bachelor's degree in a computer networking field, with many holding master's degree as well. Programmers and/or analysts are responsible for writing both scripts and software programs that deal with network analysis. They also work in diagnostics, utilities monitoring, third party product evaluation, and staying up to speed on the latest technological developments. Applicants for this job must possess strong resumes and should be willing to demonstrate their capabilities.

Of course, not everyone has an extremely high level of education and/or experience. For these professionals, such as those who merely possess associate's degrees or certifications, there are still positions available in Arkansas and elsewhere. Many of these positions can be regarded as stepping stones to eventually get to a higher level, though some are quite lucrative in their own right. Network technicians, for example, are usually high respected. These professionals frequently travel to various locations, such as offices or companies known as "customer sites," to sort out network problems, to perform upgrades, or to provide technical support. These individuals must be well versed in network setup, network troubleshooting, and network repair. They should also be good teachers who are skilled at working with others.
