WEB DEVELOPMENT BACHELOR DEGREES

A career that is categorized as web development could go in a startling number of directions.  The traditional web page development process has been performed by graphics designers, who use a variety of graphics and layout computer software to assist in their page development.  Besides understanding HTML, designers creating web pages or other interactive media designs also will use computer animation and programming packages. Computer software programs are continually being introduced to make the job easier and at the same time more sophisticated.

An Associates’ degree in graphics design with an emphasis on the internet is a good start toward becoming involved in web development.  However these days it is only a start.  For every retail outlet that is now online, web development includes some marketing expertise.  In 2004 Howard Dean built a come-from-nowhere Presidential campaign on the strength of creative Internet use.  For the 2008 race, every major candidate has a team of web developers that work on fundraising pitches, candidate presentation and other unique uses of the web to energize their current supporters and collect new ones.

That’s probably the best example of a new web development field that appeared literally overnight.  But with any web page, it’s the designer that will define the art of the possible and therefore, to some degree, what the page will look like and how it will function.

Along with graphics design a web developer should learn about keyword use and how to deploy them for maximum impact on the major search engines.  You don’t need to be adept at writing copy, but you need to know how to find out what words should be in it.
